Graduate student Lizzie Petrie feels more comfortable around books than people. Although an expert in the Hitler Youth, she’s a novice in love. Her former lesbian lover is blackmailing her, and not even those closest to Lizzie know the full story of their abusive relationship.
When visiting high school English teacher Sarah crosses Lizzie’s path at the campus, their attraction is instant, but not without complications. As they start to spend more time together, suspicions arise from both women in this sexy piece of LGBT fiction.
Plenty of good-natured teasing takes place between lovers as well as between PhD students in this lesbian contemporary romance. No relationship path ever runs smoothly, and oftentimes, those who can’t keep their mouth shut hasten necessary confrontation.
Lizzie finds herself buried in a mess of lies in this romantic comedy. The harder she tries to keep Sarah and the rest of her friends from finding out the truth about her first girlfriend, the more endearingly clueless she becomes.
A Clueless Woman A Woman Lost T B Markinson Books
First things first, for readers new to the series, this is actually the third book released. I'm not sure if I'd recommend reading them in numerical order (0, 1, 2) or in order they were published (1, 2, 0). I felt as though this story did a wonderful job of explaining some of Lizzie's motivations for her behavior in later books; you'll have to decide whether you'd rather better understand her actions when they occur (in which case you should read them in numerical order) or whether you'd prefer to be pleasantly surprised after the fact (in which case you should read them in the order they were released). So, let's talk about Lizzie. Lizzie is a mess. A brilliant, dumbfounded, somewhat adorable, occasionally frustrating mess. She's a lot, and I liked her a great deal here, probably more than in either of the two previously-released books. In fact, I'm tempted to say that the author, T.B. Markinson, has grown with each book. Certainly, my appreciation for her characters and her work has increased with each subsequent title. Either that, or I'm just getting used to Lizzie. Nah, no one but Sarah could ever "get used to" Lizzie.
Speaking of Sarah, for those who've read the previous two books, we get a lot more of Sarah here, which I really appreciated. The story's still told from Lizzie's rather befuddled perspective, but it felt as though we received a bit more insight into Sarah's character than we've been used to up to this point. Not a lot more, because Lizzie still has no idea what's going on most of the time, but Ms. Markinson manages to subtly clue the reader into things that slip right past our confused protagonist.
On a technical level, the author demonstrates a great deal of skill. The sentence structure is varied, the story is paced very well, the humor is sharp and incisive, her characters are delightfully complex, and she turns some pretty amazing phrases that transform common occurrences into memorable events. A first date's knock on her door didn't just give Lizzie butterflies in her stomach. Oh no. It caused "a million butterflies to flutter in [her] stomach like it was the last day of summer, and they knew they didn't have much time left." (Now that's how you write a sentence.)
While not quite as important, the proofreading seemed to be of a fairly high level. There were a few minor mistakes, but they were negligible at best and never negatively affected my experience with the story. That's not always the case with self-published books, and I commend the author for dedicating the time and/or resources to smoothing out any rough edges. It paid off.
So, final thoughts. I really enjoyed this entry into the "Woman Lost" saga. If you've read the previous two books, I'd strongly recommend this one. If you're new to the series, you'll have to decide where you want to start, but this is as good a place as any. If you're a Kindle Unlimited subscriber, this is one of the best series and books you're going to find in the Lesbian Romance category, and it's a steal at list price even if you're not.

A Clueless Woman A Woman Lost T B Markinson Books Reviews
This story read very much like the first one that I read in the series (A Woman Lost), except in this one I found the sex scenes repetitive and boring. After reading through the second sex scene and feeling like there wasn't anything new, I began skimming them. Surely lesbians are more creative in the bedroom than this story would have you believing. The rest of the story, while unexciting and with the feeling of going nowhere, is well written, the characters more than believable, and the editing very clean. Markinson is one of those authors that could make a phone book interesting. She makes characters that come to life, even if their life is mundane. In my opinion, I found the most interesting characters in the story to be a toss up between Ethan and Dr. Marcel with Ethan edging out a small lead. All in all though, an interesting read if not one to keep you on the edge of your seat.
Graduate student Lizzie has been scorched by love. Coming out of an abusive relationship with Meg, the abuse continues when her former lover blackmails her for outrageous amounts of money. Lizzie comes from a place of emotional wreckage and doesn’t know how to get Meg out of her life completely.
When Sarah comes into the picture, Lizzie’s battered heart responds. She doesn’t think she’s ready for a new girlfriend, but the romance solidifies. Secrets and lies might destroy Sarah and Lizzie’s relationship. A solution to the Meg situation must emerge.
I loved the characters in this novel. Lizzie engages in great, realistic dialogue with Sarah, her friend Ethan, and other players of this story. Readers will pity and despise Meg, which means the writer did an amazing job with characterization and tension. The story moves smoothly and it’s a fast read.
Because I have an iPad, I'm retired and get suggestions of books daily from BookBud.com, I tend to read a lot. It helps that many of the books in BookBud are from relatively new authors and often they are available for a discounted price. A lot of times though when I'm about half way through a book I'll say to myself "Will this book never end?" (I'm not the kind of reader who skips to the end). I'll finally finish and will add the book to my list of books I've read. I'll usually give it 2-4 stars. A couple of months later I'll look at my list and go "What was that book about?" because many books are sort of forgettable.
The first book I read by T.B. Markinson was A Woman Lost. I was fascinated by the characters and the story line. When I got done with it my main thought was "Where's the sequel?" which I shared with T.B. I gave the book the "unallowed" 6 stars in my list. T.B. has now written seven books including A Woman Ignored (my desired sequel). I have all seven books, remember all of the names, and generally remember the plots and characters of each.
T.B.'s latest book is A Clueless Woman. Guess what? It's a prequel to A Woman Lost! In it I got to find out how Lizzie and Sarah got to where they were at the start of A Woman Lost. I also got to experience other characters such as Meg, William, Janice, Dr. Marcel, Lizzie's brother and mother (who are much more prevalent in A Woman Lost) and Lizzie's good friend Ethan. And I also got to enjoy the makings of romances and relationships and the ups and downs of everyday life--things that I think are a great strength of T.B.'s.
There's only one problem with A Clueless Woman and that is that now I HAVE to read the other two Lizzie books again. You know, I think it's a tribute to T.B. that I'm actually looking forward to reading them.
I recommend all of T.B. Markinson's books. She also has "Making My Mark" on her web site (and available via email) which tells about T.B., describes what she's doing and includes information about other authors as well.
